Hamilton, OH – October 16, 2006 - Visa USA and House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-8-OH), announced today that New Miami High School will receive new laptop computers and Practical Money Skills for Life – Visa’s free, online and award-winning personal finance program.
Majority Leader Boehner attended today’s computer donation event which included a demonstration of Practical Money Skills for Life by New Miami students.
"Given today’s competitive global marketplace, it is more important than ever that we give students the right tools early in life to help them plan for their financial future," said Majority Leader Boehner. "With Visa’s generous gift, students at New Miami will be able to learn the necessary money management skills so they can be better prepared for success in today’s increasingly complex financial world."
"It is a privilege to be here at New Miami High School today to provide the students and faculty with these useful money management learning tools," said Rhonda Bentz, vice president, Visa USA. Practical Money Skills for Life (www.PracticalMoneySkills.com) is an award-winning, online, teacher tested and teacher approved financial education program. It is available for free, in English, Spanish and Chinese and is designed for teachers, students, parents and consumers.
This free educational resource provides teachers with lesson plans (kindergarten-college) mapped to their state education requirements, as well as teacher guides, overheads, instructional videos and CD-ROMs. For students, there are interactive games and calculators designed to teach financial responsibility and important concepts such as earning, saving and budgeting money.
Visa USA’s computer donation program for high schools is one of many of its ongoing outreach efforts to promote early and continuous financial education. To date, Visa has donated more than 50 computer labs nationwide.
